So didn’t quite get all of them done. In fact only got 2 of 7 done. However, it was a good year. I feel I am in better shape now than I was before. I am in a relationship which I wasn’t before. I am understanding my finances and will need to reign them in soon, but at least I have acknowledged it. Not to sure on the spiritual side still figuring that out.
The two I did:
Take GRE. I took the GRE and did pretty well. Good enough that I think I can get into grad school. I just have to figure out how to pay for it. I figure I got 4 years now to figure out how and work on it from there.
Join a second hockey team. I joined the rookie league over the summer. It was good. Skating twice a week was good. Skating at a lower level was just tremendous. Having the extra 3 seconds to think was very helpful in developing skills, plus I played defense so I could work on backward skating.
The ones I didn’t:
200lbs. This has been my goal for several years. I think I am going to need to change my eating habits which is always a pain in the ass to do. We shall see. I already started off bad today with a donut (damn free work donuts). However, I am sure I can swing it around and start working on it. Plus I will need to make sure this is all good for the triathlons.
Play 2 songs on my guitar. Well if it was out I would have a better chance. This is definitely something that my step brother told me would happen. if it wasn’t out it wouldn’t get done.
Get a person on my game that isn’t a friend. This didn’t happen cause the game didn’t get ready. I think I will tone this down a bit for 09. but that is another post.
Finish book: I did go from 4k words to 30k words but that mostly happened at the end of the year. So hopefully with more focus on it I will finish it up this year.
Pay off CC. I continued to live just barely out of my means and didn’t even put a dent in fact I added to it. So again, I think I have done well in oct and nov, December was right off because of gifts. But hopefully Jan will start out nicely and I can put the cc down this year.
I’ll post up my new goals for next year. Though they are probably going to be pretty similar to this list.
Exercise
January 2nd, 2009
I did 3 miles in 44:34 yesterday. Running at 5 mph and then switching to a walk of 3.0 to 3.5 miles an hour. I am going to start running in the morning and then biking in the afternoon though I might switch that pending on weather and what not.
Either way I am ok with that. Since if I can keep that pace while exhausted I should be fine for under 2 hours in the race.
Drinking with Dad
January 2nd, 2009
This is pretty much just a reminder post for me so I can look back on it and refresh my memory. I had a great time drinking with dad. Basically a few times a year I sit down with my dad and we talk about life and after we have figured that all out he tells me stories about his childhood and his father.
The three stories this time:
His family spent xmas in Sedona sometime when he was about 26 or so. He said they were all outside drinking and chilling. His dad was smoking a cirgertte. his Dad had to go do something and ended up putting the ciggerte on a spine of a cactus. When his dad returned he had to smoke the cig while holding the holes closed. This repeated a few times til he basically had his fingers over 6 holes trying to finish the cig and calling out for help.
Every xmas his dad would have a party and they would get a roaring fire the kind that opened right at floor level. His job was to make sure the fire was prepared for cooking. His dad would walk around the party showing off this huge prime rib. 3 inches or so. and proclaim it was dinner. His dad would then just toss it into the fire to the horror’d shouts of the guests who thought he was destroying it. The steak always came out great after knocking some ash off.
The last story was that he was an alter boy at a church in town when he was 9ish. and it was about 2 to 3 miles into town. His dad would get up early with him and tow him on the sled into the town. He remembers having to get off before the big hill into town but his dad would make sure he was there to handle his commitment.
pretty cool stories. The 1/3rd bottle of Jamesson helped as well.

Monday’s workout fo the Triathlon
December 23rd, 2008
So I started buckling down since I have 11 weeks left to get ready for this thing. I want under 2 hours for my initial goal. however, I think as I get closer I am going to make that goal more realistic. My hope is that I can do under 1 hour 45 minutes maybe even have a stretch goal of 1:30. It looks like the my age group finishes mostly around the 1:20 to 1:45 range. If I can get in there with my first triathlon I will be very pleased.
Workout for today:
5×200 yards with 2 min breaks in between. I swam them at a minute pace per 50 yards which if I go any slower I will sink it seems and if I go any faster I die. :0 Felt ok at the end however, shoulder / upper arm hurt this morning. I won’t be hitting the water again until thursday so hopefully it will be good to go by then.
I am still debating on how the breakdown of my workouts are going to be. I was thinking MWF = swimming and TTh = running but I need to work more on running and I need a break some day. I might break on wednesday. and then do what they call a Brick workout ( basically two exercises back to back) on saturday which means bike then run or swim then bike. A lot of the training plans I see do morning and afternoon workouts which I haven’t really gotten into yet. I should start splitting I guess.
I should get my bike back on saturday so I’ll do a brick bike run saturday and then a leisurely bike sunday. Then I got hockey
